Location
CLA 1.302B, Glickman Conference Center, The University of Texas at Austin
Presenter(s)
Dr. Betty Lou Leaver (Defense Language Institute)
Dr. Thomas J. Garza (UT Austin)

Dr. Betty Lou Leaver (Defense Language Institute) and Dr. Thomas J. Garza (UT Austin) will lead this workshop on developing and assessing intercultural communication skills in the foreign language classroom.

The connection between language and culture, while long established, has often been difficult for instructors to realize in the classroom. Recently published guidelines for Intercultural Communication (ICC) may provide a framework that offers practical and effective recommendations for addressing cultural instruction. This workshop will provide teachers with both techniques for addressing ICC in their language classes, as well as developing activities and materials for attaining cultural proficiency.
