June Webinar Series: How to Create and Issue Badges

Starting in June, COERLL will host a special webinar series on Digital Badges. Badges are often seen as a way to recognize learning, represent skills, and demonstrate accomplishments. Furthermore, digital badges can also be a mechanism for motivating participation and collaboration by increasing the potential for recognition and enhancing one’s identity and reputation.

One of the most interesting applications of badges, however, is the potential to utilize them as a system of alternative credentialing and as competency-based signals of achievement. As an increasing number of educational institutions, foundations, and corporations support and explore the implementation of digital badging initiatives, COERLL is eager to provide language educators with a series of webinars that will help answer the question: “Where do I start?” This series will provide participants with a solid grounding in the concept and practice of badging while also exploring a wide variety of badging initiatives, take a closer look at a variety of new tools and platforms that enable educators to create and issue badges, and delve into services that will be not only developing a robust badge system, but also ensure effective implementation.

This session will highlight some of the tools and platforms that can assist educators in design badges. Moreover, we unpack the badge ecosystem and look at services like Credly that handle the issuing and management of earned digital badges.
